Optimization of the Wake Oscillator for Transversal VIV

Vibrations of slender structures associated with the external flow present a design challenge for energy production systems placed in marine environment. The current study explores accuracy semi-empirical wake oscillator models vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) based on optimization (a) damping term and (b) empirical coefficients fluid equation. This work investigates effect ten variations, from classic van der Pol to more sophisticated fifth-order terms, prediction simplified case VIV transversally oscillating rigid provides an opportunity extended, comprehensive comparison performance tuned models. A constrained nonlinear minimization algorithm MATLAB is applied calibrate considered using published experimental data, weighted objective function formulated three different mass ratios.
